Henna (AKA; Mehndi/Mehandi)
For centuries women have used henna to adorn their bodies during times of celebration. The pregnant belly is a perfect canvas for such adornment. There is a unique and special beauty to an exposed, hennaed belly. Imagine the cover of your shower invitation with your art. There is no need to hide the belly at the beach. Henna it, Expose it, Celebrate it.
The art of henna, called Mehndi, is done by applying a paste to the skin. This paste is made from the plant Lawsonia Inermis. It stains the skin to form a temporary tattoo that lasts from 1 to 3 weeks (sometimes longer), depending on its after care. Henna is generally safe during pregnancy, but as with anything done to the body during this time, a mother-to-be should gain approval from her obstetrician. Anyone that has been diagnosed with G6PD (Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency, is allergic to Fava beans, or is severely anemic should not get a henna tattoo.
