3D/4D Images

3D Imaging is a 3 dimensional view of the object at which the ultrasound beams are focused. The picture, as shown below, is similar to a regular photograph, although without as much color detail. The quality of the image is dependent on many things. We use state-of-the-art machines, with the newest software so your images are the highest resolution and quality possible.

As mentioned above, other factors play into how well your images appear. Your baby's cooperation is a big factor. When your baby is being shy and has his or her arms in front of the face, clear facial images may be difficult to obtain. Our highly experienced ultrasonographers can often coax your baby, but sometimes partial facial images are the best that can be obtained at that time. Moms can help with this by ensuring they stay well hydrated for the 24 hours preceding their appointment, and eating a good, high carbohydrate meal prior to the session.  Staying well hydrated helps in keeping a sufficient amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby, a factor important for the movement of the ultrasound waves.

4D imaging is essentially active, moving 3D images. While your baby is being viewed in this mode you will see him or her moving, thumb sucking, smiling, swallowing, and sometimes even making waving movements. It is the closest thing to being able to actually look in on your baby. Most people are astounded by the images they see.
